Some historians believe that we have the English to thank for brunch. In England, it was common to have pre-hunt breakfasts with were traditionally lavish meals that featured both sweet and savory dishes. Other historians argue that brunch was started thanks to the Catholics who practiced fasting before church and then eat a large meals afterwards.

Whatever and wherever brunch started, we are forever thankful that it took off. While we aren’t fueling up for a hunt or breaking a fast, who knows, some of you could be, we are certainly gearing up for a day of good food, drinks and fun.


Rothmann’s Steak House

We are going to come out of the gate strong with our first brunch pick. The Long Island landmark, Rothmann’s Steak House around since 1907, offers a grandeur experience where prime dry-aged steaks, great wine and hospitality are not only a given, they are a tradition.

The decor is simple, but elegant, so make sure you are dressed to impress! Rothmann’s Brunch is served only on Sundays, (Sunday Funday!) from eleven to two, which makes it quite exclusive. We mentioned before to make sure you are dressed to impress, but also make sure there is an elastic band incorporated in your outfit because, eat you will!

You’ll first start out with the Captain’s Table which boasts croissants, danishes, mini bagels and bialys, seasonal fruit, Hawaiian Big Eye Tuna Salad and more! Some more of the offerings you’ll be able to choose from are apricot glazed triple cream brie en croute with granny smith apple chips, Belgian Waffles prepared to order accompanied by German Shlog and assorted hot house berries, Italian Style French Toast Cheese Blintzes served with a Strawberry Grand Marnier Sauce

Dine in-doors or Al Fresco; or really set the bar high and do dinner and a night stay in the Oheka Hotel. The fine furnishings and elegant décor of the Castle’s Chateau Rooms reflect the elegant designs of famous French chateaux, which were the inspiration for the beautiful architecture of OHEKA back in 1919 and are sure to impress even the toughest critic.

Rustic Root

If your looking for star worthy restaurants to brunch at, Rustic Root hits the mark. The Executive Chef, Thomas Gloster is a Food Network Chopped Champion! His brings a New American cuisine to Rustic Root that focuses on local ingredients and creative twists.

Walking into Rustic Root you are greeted by texture from the wood and brick elements with a warm, industrial feel. Sit down with your crew and start out with the Skillet Cornbread that’s drizzled with local honey, butter and Amagansett Sea Salt. After that, it’s up to you. Sweet or Savory? The age old question that haunts all of us brunchers. Do you go with the Lemon Ricotta Pancaked with fresh lemon, ricotta, Catskill harvested maple syrup and candied lemon rind or the Lox and Everything Pizzetta with house made lox, everything flatbread, red onion, capers, cream cheese and dill?

Food aside, they have Bloody Marys with LIV vodka, cold pressed tomatoes, horseradish, celery and tabasco, Mimosa’s with prosecco and fresh squeezed orange juice, classic brunching cocktails. Or dive into one of their delicious cocktails and bring on the gossip with their Moira Rose Drink which has Wolfer Estate pink gin, rose syrup, chambord, lemon and rose petals, enjoy and remember, “Gossip is the Devil’s telethon.” – Moira Rose

What better food to pair with all those drinks than some Chicken n’ Waffles, Back That Hass Up which comes with avocados, sour dough bread, topped with baby arugula, roasted red peppers, tomatoes and white truffle oil; don’t forget to add two eggs any style. Looking for a different kind of brunch experience? Take it to the vineyards – without having to travel! Del Vino Vineyards is located right in Northport, but you feel like you’ve been transported out East.

Del Vino offers fresh ingredients, wine-pairings, and craft beer for those who don’t vibe with the grapes. This is a great option to order a few different plates and share between your group. Their Artisan Meat and Cheese Platter is more than Instagram worthy, with an assortment of imported cheeses, Italian meats, mini sweet peppers, fig jam, olives, caperberries & marcona almonds served with fresh Italian bread with a touch of extra virgin olive oil is great way to start off. Order up some of their Margherita Pizzas, Gourmet Sausage and Peppers or their grilled Octopus served with olive oil, garlic, parsley, lemon zest served with seared shrimp and asparagus.

What are you going to drink? Del Vino has their own wines on hand and they are delicious – Cabernet Blend, Red Blend, Super Tuscan, Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, Moscato, Riesling and our favorite for the summer, their Rose Dolce.

We’ve got another boozy brunch option for you! If you are a professional, Novita offers Saturday AND Sunday 2 Course Brunches with Unlimited Mimosas, Bloodies, and Screwdrivers.

Corncucopia’s Noshery

If you’re into hippy, goth, and retro vibes then Cornucopia’s Noshery is the spot for you! This eclectic eatery is located in the heart of Amityville. Some of their specialties include the Skinny B*tch (grilled veggies, cheddar and egg white scramble, and fruit), Fat Bastard (2 eggs, 2 pancakes or French toast or waffle, ham, bacon, sausage, and home fries), Frogs in Holes (2 eggs cooked over easy in the middle of French toast), and Croque Madame (French grilled cheese, Virginia ham, mornay cream sauce on sour dough, and 2 over easy eggs). Everything is made to order so freshness is guaranteed.

They’re known for their amazing coffee like the Kick Ass (coffee and double shot), Affogato (double shot and gelato), and Crack (Cold brew iced coffee). Be sure to ask about their list of Mimosa flavors to try as well!

Cornucopia’s Noshery is the ultimate kick-back-and-relax kind of place to experience during the weekend. They describe themselves as a “pseudo art gallery, concert hall, create your own karaoke good time” so get ready to enjoy a great meal, look at cool artwork, and even listen to music! There are also a number of gluten-free substitutes and vegan menu options, so this is an ideal place for a party of many dietary needs/restrictions.

That holds true for Mercato Kitchen & Cocktails, making it an excellent choice for the booziest of brunches. There are always eight handcrafted cocktails available, ranging in flavor complexity, as well as a list of drinks inspired by the season. This summer, our favorites are the Fireside S’mores, Peach Palmer, and Frosé. 

Whether you’re on a budget, or just love a great deal, consider getting one of the prix fixe options-  1 Appetizer, 1 Entree with 1 Drink Included. Choice of Bloody Mary, Sangria or Mimosa for $28.95 or 1 Appetizer, 1 Entree with 2 Hours Unlimited Bloody Mary, Sangria or Mimosa for $34.95. If you have a sweet tooth, you may want to try the Cinnamon French Toast or Chocolate Chip Pancakes. In the mood for something savory? Then the Sunday Morning Poutine, Bourbon Steak & Egg Skillet, or Avocado & Chicken Panini may be right up your alley. There are many Italian-inspired dishes on the menu as well.  

Brunch is served from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm on Saturday and Sunday so reservations are recommended. Both indoor and outdoor seating are available, each area has great lighting and décor so have your pick!
